Introduction to Intermediate Massage

Welcome to Intermediate massage.

Here’s a link to the previous post describing course aims, learning outcomes, etc.

Your learning in this course will be composed of online learning which will serve to inform your hands-on learning, and practical block courses.

I hope that you enjoyed your first taste of sports massage over the weekend.

Short-term overview

Over the period to the next practical block, you will be heavily involved in learning about the changes that occur in dysfunctional soft-tissue, how to interpret your palpatory findings, and how to apply massage strokes to correct certain types of dysfunction. We will also deepen your ability to perform a subjective analysis, and will introduce some of the ideas involved in postural analysis.

This week’s activities

  1. To start with have a read through The massage process revisited. This learning resource is designed to give you an overview of the ways in which we will aim to expand your ability to provide effective treatment over the semester.

  2. Review the Principles of deep tissue massage. These principles should be largely second nature to you by now, but they are still worth bringing to your attention as they relate to the next learning module

  3. Read through the effects of deep tissue massage and complete the learning exercise at the bottom of the page.

  4. Practice your sport massage techniques with your classmates.
